The Lower Manhattan Emergency Preservation Fund (LMEPF) was formed after 9/11 to provide grants that will help alleviate the impact of the disaster and to stabilize, renovate, and restore damaged historic sites in Lower Manhattan. The fund consists of a consortium of five prominent historic preservation organizations, the World Monuments Fund, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation League of New York State, Municipal Art Society, and the New York Landmarks Conservancy. Historic sites eligible for grants from the LMEPF include secular and religious structures, open spaces, and works of art. In awarding grants, preference will be given to nonprofit applicants and to uninsured or under-insured owners. Requests may be made for planning, documentation, evaluation, construction, and advocacy activities.
